MARYVILLE, TENNESSEE - Comparable to football’s Super Bowl, basketball’s Final Four, and baseball’s World Series, the Smoky Mountain Classic is the premiere event of its sport…slow pitch softball. Sponsored by Louisville Slugger, BlountToday and Boombah, the 43rd Annual Smoky Mountain Classic will be held July 8, 9, & 10, 2011.
Next year the Senior Division of the sport will get to enjoy the "Smoky Mountain" tradition when the Smoky Mountain Senior Classic will get underway on June 1-3, 2012 at Maryville. RB Thomas, Jr., ISSA Executive Director announced the new event at the Managers Meeting for the ISF Senior World Cup at Salem, VA on Thursday night. "The Maryville-Alcoa-Blount County Tennessee Parks and Recreation Commission and the ISSA have partnered to bring the Smoky Mountain Senior Classic next year on the first weekend in June. Each year the very best softball players in the United States have looked forward to playing in the "Smoky." In 2012 the very best senior players will also get the opportunity to make the trip to Maryville. Many players in the Major and Major Plus divisions have played at Maryville and will be excited to return. The field space is limited so the ISSA will take applications (Online entries) now and select the top ranked teams that enter for the competition on or about March 1, 2012.
