Lester Leonard Invitational, Senior Division
MANASSAS, VIRGINIA - Play Ball. The Senior Softball Capital of the World played host to some of the top rated senior slowpitch softball teams in the United States on Saturday, April 2. Playing in the Senior Division of the Lester Leonard Invitational, senior teams from three Mid-Atlantic states entered the 2011 competition to vie for the divisional championships.
The Division 1 final pitted the IMS Dogs from nearby Aldie, VA against the High Street Bucs from Baltimore, MD. The IMS Dogs are coached by Tom Wells and are the 2010 ISSA World Champions in the 50 Major division. The Dogs cruised to a 31-15 victory to remain undefeated on the day. Earlier, the Bucs advanced to the finals by defeating the Metro Stars 40-35 in a see-saw battle between the two explosive power hitting teams. Finishing in fourth place was St. Anthony’s from Delaware. The tournament MVPs were Danny Gregory (IMS Dogs) and Mark Dickinson. (High Street Bucs).
The Division 2 championship was captured by Spare Parts, a Manassas senior league team coached by Bill Cameron and Bobby Coleman. (Most of the players are on the Northern Virginia Force 60+ Major roster as well.) Spare Parts defeated Hammers from Richmond, VA 28-18 to claim the division title. Finishing in third place was BH Maintenance from Fairfax, VA. The Division 2 MVPs were Frank Tomlinson from Spare Parts and Tom Latta from Hammers.
